Composite veneers are restorations made from a composite material that is quite cheaper than ceramics. This is an effective solution for your smile, but unfortunately not as long-lasting as ceramic veneers. Because of this factor, doctors in our network suggest covering their patients’ teeth with ceramics straightaway, since patients with composite veneers will eventually have to replace them.

Indications for replacing composite veneers with ceramic ones

How to understand that your composite veneers “have expired”? This is evidenced by the following medical indicators:

  • dark stripes appear on the border of the composite material and the tooth’s own tissues;
  • chipping or abrasion on the composite;
  • discoloration;
  • the composite becomes dull over time, loses its color properties;
  • over time, caries can develop on the teeth, mostly on the contacts.

Procedure

This section contains a step-by-step description of replacing one restoration with another. This enables patients to understand the processes and timing of this procedure.

  1. The doctor takes impressions or wax-ups for future temporary veneers.
  2. Under local anesthesia, the composite is prepared and the teeth are minimally processed.
  3. A digital impression is taken.
  4. Temporary veneers are made according to the old shape of the teeth from impressions or the new one with Wax-Up.
  5. Patients receive a simulation of what their future restorations will look like via messenger. The patient agrees on the proposed option or makes corrections.
  6. Then, during the working week, laboratory temporary veneers are made for fitting. The doctor installs them so that the patient can see what the future smile will look like and get used to it.
  7. After the final approval, the laboratory manufactures permanent ceramic veneers (10-14 working days, depending on the number of units and the overall workload of the laboratory).
  8. An orthopedic dentist installs permanent veneers and gives recommendations for taking care of them.
