Dental prosthesis
Prosthetics is a branch of dentistry in which doctors restore missing or severely damaged teeth using prosthetic structures. As a result of treatment, the bite is normalized, chewing efficiency is restored, and a harmonious, natural smile appears.
The need for prosthetics arises in the event of single or multiple tooth loss, excessive wear, destruction of the crown part, as well as in the case of replacing outdated structures.
The Astra Dent dental center network has been performing prosthetics for over 18 years. All offices use 3D scanning instead of traditional impressions. All orthopedic structures are manufactured in Astra Dent’s own dental laboratory using CAD/CAM technology, which reduces time and improves the quality of fixation.

Hello! I wish you health! In the previous review I shared information about the successful completion of implantation, and now I am also happy about the successful prosthetics! I sincerely thank the orthopedic doctor Dnistransky Vadim Igorevich for his professional work. This is not my first meeting with the doctor (9 years ago there was a procedure for prosthetics of the front teeth - installation of crowns, I am very satisfied). I wish Vadim Igorevich success and grateful patients, and the Astra Dent clinic - prosperity!

Astra Dent in Kyiv
Advantages of dental prosthetics at Astra Dent
At Astra Dent dental centers, prosthetics are performed using new generation digital technologies. Instead of the usual impressions, 3D intraoral scanners such as Medit i500 or 3Shape TRIOS are used, which read the exact anatomy of the teeth without discomfort.
The data is then processed in Astra Dent’s own dental laboratory, which works on the basis of CAD/CAM systems. This means:
- accelerated manufacturing;
- minimal error when fitting the prosthesis;
- high quality edge processing;
- natural appearance even in complex clinical cases.
Doctors trusted by tens of thousands of patients
The network employs orthopedic doctors with experience from 7 to 34 years. Every year they take advanced training courses, attend international congresses and master new techniques.
Each Astra Dent orthopedist has related competencies in orthodontics, gnathology or surger y – thanks to this, the prostheses do not just “hold”, but work harmoniously in the entire dento-jaw system, without overloading the joints and causing discomfort.
Individual approach – no templates for patients
No prosthetics begins without a thorough diagnosis, analysis of the bite and photofixation of the condition of the teeth.
After that, the orthopedist discusses with the patient all possible options: materials, terms, guarantees, cost, appearance of the structure. Proposals are always based on a balance: aesthetics, function, budget.
If necessary, surgeons, therapists, orthodontists are involved in the planning — so that the final result is as stable as possible.
Comfort of treatment — from appointment to fixation
Astra Dent dental centers are designed so that the patient feels calm and protected.
- Soft lighting, ergonomic chairs, soundproofed offices.
- The network operates in all districts of Kyiv, with the ability to choose a convenient location.
- Accessible departments with a barrier-free environment for patients with disabilities or limited mobility.
- Flexible appointment without waiting, consultation is free.
Types of dentures and their features
Dental prostheses are orthopedic structures that replace lost or severely damaged teeth, restoring chewing function, diction and aesthetics. In modern dentistry, prostheses are made with micron accuracy — according to digital impressions, from certified materials, taking into account the bite, load and wishes of the patient.
General advantages of modern prosthetics
- Maximum aesthetics — high-quality prostheses look like natural teeth and are almost indistinguishable from their own enamel.
- Restoration of functions — full chewing, speech is restored, facial symmetry is maintained.
- Individual selection of materials — zirconium, E.max, metal-ceramic, nylon, acrylic.
- Comfort in use — after adaptation, most patients do not feel the prosthesis as a foreign body.
- Wide selection — removable and non-removable structures, budget and premium solutions.
- Possibility of prosthetics without tooth extraction, if the root part is preserved or there is enough tissue for fixation.
Classification of prostheses
All dentures are conventionally divided into removable and non-removable.
Removable dentures
These designs are easily removed by the patient themselves. They are used in case of loss of a large number of teeth or complete edentia. The main advantages are affordability, the possibility of prosthetics with insufficient bone tissue.
1.Completely removable dentures
- Plastic — a classic option for complete tooth loss.
- Nylon — flexible, less noticeable, comfortable to wear.
Cons: long-term getting used to, risk of rubbing, need for adjustment and fixing creams, change of position when the bone wears out.
2.Partially removable dentures
- Plastic or nylon with clasps — for partial tooth loss.
- Clasp dentures — have a metal arch that provides strong fixation and less pressure on the gums.
Advantages of clasp dentures — better stability and comfort compared to fully removable models.
Fixed dentures
These are permanently fixed structures that are not removed by the patient. They provide the best aesthetics, comfort and durability. Fixed dentures are installed either on teeth or on implants.
- Single crowns — restore one destroyed tooth.
- Crowns with a console — close the gap in the absence of support at one of the ends.
Materials: zirconium, E.max (lithium disilicate ceramics), metal ceramics.
Bridge dentures (bridges)
Connected crowns that cover several teeth or implants. Used when one or two teeth are lost in a row. Attached to supporting teeth or implants.
Microprostheses
Used for partial defects of the tooth crown:
- Veneers – thin ceramic plates on the front surface of the tooth.
- Onlays (onlay, inlay) – restore part of the chewing surface.
- Inlays – microprostheses that are installed inside the damaged tooth after preparation.
Prosthetics on implants
Prosthetics supported by implants is a modern and long-term method of restoring one, several or all lost teeth. Unlike classic prosthetics, which require grinding of adjacent teeth or the use of removable structures, implantation allows us to restore full function and aesthetics without harming healthy tissues.
During the procedure, a titanium implant is placed in the jawbone, which performs the function of an artificial root. After its engraftment (osseointegration), an individual orthopedic structure is fixed to it – a crown, bridge or complete prosthesis.
At Astra Dent dental centers, implantation and prosthetics are performed by experienced implant surgeons and orthopedists who work according to international protocols and use certified systems (MIS, Straumann, Megagen, etc.).
Denture Care
The quality and durability of the prosthesis largely depend on proper home care.
Removable dentures should be cleaned daily with special brushes and pastes. It is recommended to store them in a dry or moistened container according to the instructions.
Fixed dentures (on teeth or implants) require hygiene in the same way as your own teeth:
- use a soft brush, floss or special brushes;
- an irrigator helps clean hard-to-reach areas near the gums and between the teeth.
Preventive visits to the dentist are mandatory every 6 months. During the appointment, the doctor checks the condition of the structure, gums and bite, and also performs professional hygiene.
At Astra Dent, patients are provided with individual care recommendations, taught hygiene skills and supported even after the end of treatment – so that the result remains stable for a long time.
Advantages and disadvantages of the main types of prosthetics
At Astra Dent dental centers, doctors select the type of prosthetics depending on the clinical situation, anatomical features, the patient’s budget and the expected result. Each option has its advantages and limitations – it is important to understand them before starting treatment.
Removable prosthetics
Advantages:
- Affordable cost – this is the most economical solution in case of partial or complete loss of teeth.
- Possibility of installation in the absence of supporting teeth – even in case of complete edentia.
- Ease of care – the prosthesis can be removed and cleaned outside the oral cavity.
- Quickness of manufacture – in simple cases, the design can be ready within 7-10 days.
Disadvantages:
- Long-term getting used to – especially in the first weeks of wearing, discomfort, impaired diction, gag reflex are possible.
- Less stable fixation than with fixed prostheses – sometimes the use of a fixing cream is required.
- Risk of bone atrophy – with prolonged use without implants.
- The need for replacement or relining every few years due to changing gum shape.
Fixed prosthetics
Advantages:
- High aesthetics – crowns and bridges made of zirconium or ceramics are practically indistinguishable from your own teeth.
- Comfort – no moving elements, does not disturb diction, does not rub the mucous membrane.
- Stable fixation – the prosthesis is rigidly fixed, does not shift during chewing.
- Suitable for restoring one or more teeth in a row.
Disadvantages:
- Higher cost, compared to removable structures.
- The need to process the supporting teeth to fix the bridges.
- Not used in case of complete tooth loss without implantation.
Implant prosthetics
Advantages:
- Maximum functionality and stability – the prosthesis is fixed on titanium implants that integrate into the bone.
- The closest design to a natural tooth – the sensation and load are distributed in the same way as in a natural dentition.
- Durability – with proper care, the implant will last more than 15-20 years.
- Stopping bone atrophy – the implant stimulates the jaw, unlike a removable prosthesis.
Disadvantages:
- Requires surgical intervention – the implant is installed in several stages, with a period of osseointegration (2-6 months).
- Higher financial costs – especially with full prosthetics or the need for additional bone grafting.
- Contraindications in some patients – for example, with severe systemic diseases or insufficient bone mass.
At Astra Dent, each option is considered individually, and the orthopedist explains to the patient in detail all the pros, cons and alternatives. Thanks to a comprehensive approach, the patient receives the optimal solution for his situation.
Indications and contraindications for dental prosthetics
Prosthetics are not only a way to restore a smile, but also a necessary part of the full functioning of the dentofacial system. At Astra Dent dental centers, orthopedists assess the condition of the oral cavity and the patient’s general health before starting treatment to determine the feasibility and safety of installing orthopedic structures.
Indications for prosthetics
Prosthetics are recommended in the following cases:
Loss of one or more teeth
- A cavity in a row leads to displacement of neighboring teeth, overloading of antagonists and impaired occlusion.
- The absence of even one tooth can cause chewing disorders, problems with diction and changes in the temporomandibular joint.
Destruction of the crown part of the tooth
- With significant carious lesions, abrasion or chipping, the tooth can be saved by installing a crown or inlay.
Aesthetic defects
- Change in the color, shape, and inclination of the teeth in the smile area.
- Prosthetics with veneers or onlays allows us to restore a harmonious appearance without total intervention.
Preparation for implantation or recovery after it
- Installation of crowns on implants or bridges in case of tooth loss in hard-to-reach areas.
Contraindications to prosthetics
Like any dental intervention, prosthetics has limitations:
- Acute inflammatory processes in the oral cavity. First, it is necessary to carry out rehabilitation: treatment of canals, gums or removal of unsuitable teeth.
- Insufficient bone tissue volume.
- General contraindications to surgical intervention (uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, cancer in the stage of active treatment, severe forms of osteoporosis, blood clotting disorders).
- Unformed bite (in children and adolescents). Prosthetics with permanent structures is performed after the jaws have grown, but temporary restoration of function is possible.
How is dental prosthetics performed at Astra Dent – step by step?
Prosthetics is not a one-time procedure, but a clearly planned process that includes diagnostics, preparation, fabrication of structures and monitoring of the result. At Astra Dent dental centers, the patient receives full support at every stage – with clear explanations, transparent communication and caring support.
Initial consultation
The first visit begins with a detailed clinical examination. The doctor assesses the condition of the teeth, gums, bite, analyzes the patient’s complaints, previous interventions or existing orthopedic structures.
This is followed by:
- 3D scanning or taking classic impressions (according to indications);
- photo protocol – for planning aesthetics;
- discussion of types of prostheses, materials and treatment times;
- preliminary agreement on the cost.
If necessary, a comprehensive plan is drawn up with preparation stages, for example: preliminary treatment, implantation or gnathological bite correction.
Preparation for prosthetics
To ensure that the prosthesis lasts a long time and without complications, Astra Dent doctors perform a complete sanitation of the oral cavity:
- treatment of caries and inflammatory processes,
- removal of non-restorable or mobile teeth,
- installation of implants or intra-root pins (according to indications),
- correction of the gums in case of aesthetic defects.
At this stage, a base is formed that will allow for accurate fixation of the future orthopedic structure.
Temporary prosthetics
While the permanent structure is being manufactured in the laboratory, the patient is fitted with a temporary prosthesis – for aesthetic and functional reasons. It:
- protects the prepared teeth or implants;
- helps maintain diction and chewing;
- allows the patient to assess the shape and position of future prostheses.
In complex cases, corrections are made to the plan at this stage to ensure comfort and accuracy of the final result.
Installation of permanent dentures
The finished structure (crown, bridge, veneers, clasp or removable prosthesis) is tried on and fixed. Important points:
- checking the closure, contact density, aesthetics;
- correction of color and shape (if necessary);
- final fixation with cement or screw connection (for implants);
- instruction on care and adaptation.
The patient receives a fully functional and aesthetic structure – without restrictions in chewing, with a natural appearance.
Post-prosthetic observation and support
After the installation of orthopedic structures, Astra Dent does not forget about the patient:
- control examinations are carried out after 7-10 days, then after 1-3 months;
- the doctor checks the stability of fixation, the condition of the gums and mucous membrane;
- if necessary – minor polishing or surface correction.
The patient also receives recommendations on hygiene: choosing a brush, irrigator, rinse, specifics of caring for bridges or removable structures.
How much does dental prosthetics cost?
The formation of the cost of prosthetics depends on many factors. In addition to the price of the orthopedic product itself – a crown, veneer, bridge or removable prosthesis – all the accompanying stages of treatment are also taken into account, which depend on the selected type of construction.
The cost may include:
- taking impressions (traditional or digital);
- 3D modeling of the future construction;
- manufacturing and fixing a temporary product while waiting for the permanent one;
- working with tooth preparation and preparation of the base.
When it comes to prosthetics on implants, the cost is formed taking into account the following components:
- implant;
- gum former for proper healing;
- abutment (connecting element between the implant and crown) – standard or individual;
- orthopedic construction (crown, bridge).
The final cost can be found out during a consultation, when the doctor will conduct an examination and draw up an individual treatment plan.
You can find current prices in the Astra Dent price list.
