Indications for removal of teeth, dentists are divided into 2 groups: planned and urgent.

Emergency intervention to remove a tooth is necessary for such situations:

• An acute purulent process of inflammation has been launched (this is quite serious since it can cause various diseases: periostitis or osteomyelitis).
• No other type of therapy can be produced, there is significant pain.
• There is a fracture of the coronal lobe, the crown cannot be sealed/subjected to orthopedic treatment.
• An axial tooth fracture occurs.

Tooth extraction according to the plan will be prescribed in such situations:

• An atypical arrangement of teeth (they can cause injury to the mucous membrane, interfere with food intake).
• Other treatments are not able to save the collapsed tooth.
• There are swelling of the jaw.
• The tooth has a solid root canal (impassable), besides with permanent near root periodontitis, cysts.
• Orthodontic treatment is performed.
• Mechanical impairment of the tooth.

There are contraindications for tooth extraction:

• Due to the low blood clotting, it is not recommended to perform tooth extraction during menstruation or while taking medications that reduce blood clotting.
• In the case of acute heart disease (myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis).
• In the period of pregnancy, in its first and last months.

Wisdom teeth removal

Extraction of such a tooth is one of the greatest fears of a person. Dentists will insist on removing this tooth in some cases:

• The patient feels a strong pain, extending into the ear and jaw.
• Chronic inflammation.
• During the eruption of the wisdom tooth (or a tooth-eight) destroys the tooth in the neighborhood.
• Pericoronitis is observed (the gum tissue that surrounds the penetrating wisdom tooth is inflamed).

This is believed to be due to a number of reasons: access to them is rather limited, their root canals are often crooked, these teeth often do not develop as they should, and sometimes grow already destroyed.

Ways to remove teeth:

1. Using forceps and elevators (this type is suitable for teeth that have fully erupted).
2. Using a scalpel, cutter or laser (removal from typical becomes atypical when the surgeon takes one of these tools).
3. Using a piezotome (ultrasonic removal).

Most often, the doctor has to use not a single tool, but a combination of them. Some cases also require advanced qualifications of the surgeon. In such situations, we are talking about the removal of teeth of increased complexity. Such surgical interventions are often performed both under local anesthesia and under general anesthesia.

If we talk about wisdom teeth, there are several options for how they can be removed:

1. Each of them individually, in a separate visit.
2. In pairs: either sides or jaws.
3. All four in one go.

Not all patients dare to remove four eights in one visit, but this has its own advantage – one course of antibiotics.
