CT of the dental jaw
Computed tomography (CT) of teeth is a modern method of volumetric diagnostics, which allows dentists to obtain an accurate three-dimensional image of the jaws, teeth, root canals, maxillary sinuses and surrounding anatomical structures. Unlike conventional X-rays, 3D CT gives the doctor a complete picture of the state of the tissues, which is especially important before implantation, extraction of complex teeth, orthodontic or endodon tic treatment.
In Astra Dent dental centers, computed tomography is performed on a German Sirona tomograph, which allows us to obtain images with high accuracy and minimal radiation exposure. The procedure takes less than a minute, does not require special preparation and is carried out in comfortable conditions. The technology allows us to detect the smallest details that are not visible on a panoramic image, therefore it is an integral part of modern diagnostics.
Thanks to this approach, doctors at Astra Dent plan treatment accurately, quickly and individually — taking into account all the anatomical features of the patient.
Why do patients choose Astra Dent for CT?
In Astra Dent dentistry, the Sirona tomograph (Germany) is used — one of the most accurate devices on the market. It creates 3D images with high resolution with minimal radiation exposure. This means that the doctor sees even microscopic details — cracks, branching of canals, changes in bone tissue. Thanks to this, it is possible to plan a complex intervention without error or assess the problem without additional procedures.
Experienced X-ray technicians
All departments are staffed by specialists with extensive practical experience — from 7 to 40 years in the field of X-ray diagnostics. They do not just take CT scans, but are able to quickly adapt the technique to the clinical situation. This is especially important during diagnostics in children, patients with braces or with complex jaw anatomy.
Fast results
At Astra Dent, the patient receives the results on the same day — in digital format or on a disk/flash drive. The images are immediately analyzed by the doctor, so there is no need to wait or make a separate appointment for viewing. This is convenient, especially if you are planning treatment or surgery on the same day.
Comprehensive approach to diagnostics
All processes at Astra Dent are organized so that the patient undergoes a CT scan and immediately receives a consultation with a dentist, surgeon or orthodontist. All CT results are available on the day of the examination, so there is no need to wait. You can immediately consult with a specialist and not waste time on a second visit. This saves time and allows you to quickly start treatment. All dental offices are equipped for a full examination during the initial visit.
Indications for CT at Astra Dent
In Astra Dent dentistry, 3D computed tomography is recommended in the following cases:
- Diagnosis of hidden diseases. CT helps to detect lesions that are not visible on a panoramic image — deep caries, pulpitis, periodontitis.
- Assessment of root canals. Before endodontic treatment, CT allows the dentist to see the number, shape and patency of the canals, which reduces the risk of complications.
- Detection of cysts, granulomas and other formations. The image allows us to assess the size, boundaries and impact on surrounding tissues.
- Implantation planning. Tomography determines the volume and density of bone tissue, the location of important structures (nerves, sinuses), which is necessary for safe implantation.
- Preparation for orthodontic treatment. Using 3D imaging, the doctor assesses the position of impacted, dystopic teeth, as well as the symmetry of the jaws.
- Analysis of developmental anomalies. CT allows us to accurately see underdevelopment, supernumerary teeth, pathological root location, displacement of bone structures.
In each of these cases, CT of the teeth at Astra Dent helps to avoid unforeseen complications and choose the most accurate treatment plan.
When is CT not performed?
Although computed tomography of the teeth is a safe and minimally invasive procedure, it has a number of limitations. At Astra Dent, the doctor must assess the feasibility of CT before prescribing.
Main contraindications:
- Pregnancy. In the first trimester, the procedure is not performed at all. In the 2-3 trimesters — only if urgently needed and with the use of a protective apron.
- Inability to fix the head. If the patient cannot calmly hold their head for several seconds (for example, with neurological disorders), the image quality will be insufficient.
- Violation of the psychoemotional state. With severe claustrophobia or anxiety disorders, CT may cause discomfort.
- The presence of massive metal structures in the scanning area. For example, orthopedic plates or braces can distort the image.
In each specific case, the dentist at Astra Dent assesses the possible risks, determines the indications and offers alternative diagnostic methods if CT is not recommended.
How is the dental CT procedure performed at Astra Dent?
Computed tomography in Astra Dent dentistry takes less than a minute — the duration of the scan itself is up to 30 seconds. This is a completely painless and safe procedure that does not require complex preparation. The patient only needs to remove metal jewelry — this can be done directly in the X-ray room before the examination.
Each Astra Dent dental center has its own Sirona tomograph installed, which takes a series of high-precision images in a matter of seconds. Immediately after the examination, the patient can receive the results in digital format — on disk or by e-mail.
All images are automatically stored in a single clinic system. This means that doctors of various specialties can quickly access CT and review the image with the patient, point out existing problems (for example, cysts or canal pathologies) and proceed to the next stage of treatment without delay.
Scanning at Astra Dent is performed by experienced X-ray technicians with experience ranging from 7 to 40 years. Thanks to this, the patient can be confident in the accuracy of the examination and the comfortable procedure.
Why is it worth undergoing diagnostics using CT?
Computed tomography is much more accurate than traditional X-ray.
Advantages of CT in dentistry:
- Full three-dimensional visualization. Unlike a panoramic image, CT allows the doctor to see each tooth and bone tissue in three projections. This is especially important when planning implantation, orthodontic or surgical treatment.
- Accurate diagnosis of “hidden” problems. CT detects caries between teeth, microcracks, changes in bone density, cysts or inflammation even before obvious symptoms appear.
- Safe radiation dose. Modern tomographs, such as Sirona at Astra Dent, give minimal radiation exposure — lower than the dose of a conventional CT scan of the body.
- Speed and comfort. Scanning lasts up to 30 seconds, does not require complex preparation and does not cause discomfort.
- Possibility of monitoring treatment. CT allows not only to diagnose, but also to assess the dynamics — for example, the success of root canal treatment or implant engraftment.
In the Astra Dent network, CT is included in the standards of comprehensive diagnostics, so the patient receives an accurate picture of the condition of the dento-maxillary system already at the first visit. This saves time, simplifies treatment planning and increases its effectiveness.
