Condylography

This procedure is available in the gnathological department of Astra Dent Livoberezhna. Condylography or axiography is prescribed for a patient who needs to put the jaw in the correct position before beginning orthodontic treatment or prosthetics.

During condylography, the doctor records standard movements of the lower jaw (forward-backward, left-right, open-close) using a special device and records crunching, clicking or complaints of pain in the joint. This motion graph is stored in digital format and then plastered in the articulator/variator. This is the main difference between condylography and axiography: in the second method, there is no transfer of a digital graph into a physical model.

With the help of this model, the doctor analyzes the data and looks for a therapeutic position of the jaw; they can add the angle of inclination of the joint, if there is compression in the joint — perform decompression. Then, a side projection of the skull is additionally taken, and based on the results of this procedure, a follow-up consultation is scheduled, where the doctor looks for the therapeutic position of the jaw, determined on the model, when the patient is in the chair.
