Mouth guards

Mouth guards

At any age, we wish to have a perfect smile. Modern medicine allows you to eliminate any defects of the teeth at any age. Correcting the patient for defects in the dentition, most dentists recommend the use of braces as a proven way to correct bite defects, or improperly growing teeth.

But now the aesthetic aspect of treatment is very important to people. Therefore, dental clinics offer an alternative to braces — mouth guards for teeth. Mouth guard for teeth is also used to protect against injury and damage during sports, for teeth whitening.

How are the mouth guards for aligning the teeth? This is a removable type design, which consists of special thin plates of a polymer material. Due to the pressure on the dentition, the teeth are displaced, as a result of which they achieve that the teeth occupy the correct position in the oral cavity.

If you use a mouth guard to align the teeth, then you need to understand that only an experienced dentist can pick up such a device. The doctor will tell you the necessary time to wear the mouth guard. But, in general, this device is worn for at least 12 hours a day for a rather long period. This period will be determined by the dentist, but on average, the result of wearing a mouth guard appears after 1-2 years. At the same time, in order to achieve the maximum result, frequent replacement of the cap is recommended every two weeks.

Advantages of using mouth guards for teeth:

  • Transparent material mouth guard ensures their invisibility. So, wearing mouth guard will not cause discomfort.
  • Removable principle allows you to keep mouth guard clean and ensures ease of wearing.
  • The polymers from which the mouth guards are made are absolutely harmless to the health of the patient. They do not work with chemicals.
  • Depending on the type of treatment, you can choose an individual model of the mouth guard.
  • It is possible to simultaneously align the teeth and whiten them.
  • Wearing a mouth guard does not harm tooth enamel and gums.

Types of mouth guards

Depending on the cost and dental use, mouth guards are of the following types:

  • Standard mouthguard. The most economical option. These devices are manufactured massively and do not take into account the individual characteristics of the patient’s jaw.
  • Thermoplastic mouthguard. This type of mouthguard is made of a special material that softens under the action of temperature and when applied to the teeth takes on the necessary shape. Thermoplastic mouthguard are usually used after wearing braces, as the final phase of orthodontic treatment.
  • Individual mouthguard. This type of mouthguard provides that the doctor first makes a cast of teeth and caps are modeled individually for each patient. This type of cap is characterized by increased cost, as they are comfortable, almost invisible and, due to high accuracy, are effective in the treatment of maxillary defects.

Dentists strongly recommend not to buy mouth guards to align teeth in online stores, because professionals should select them.

Care for mouth guards will not be difficult. It is enough to rinse them with water and brush with an ordinary toothbrush. It is not allowed to clean the plastic in hot water, and generally expose to high temperatures. For proper storage of the mouth guard, you must use a case or a special container with vents. In addition to the fact that mouth guard in practice quite often has to be changed every two weeks, in any case, in such an interval, they must be inspected for mechanical damage.
