Fluoride treatment with enamel-sealing liquid, fluorine-containing lacquer, 1 tooth
In Which Cases Is Tooth Fluoridation with Enamel-Sealing Liquid or Fluoride Varnish Performed for Children and Adults?
Tooth fluoridation is a procedure in which a fluoride preparation is applied to the surface of a tooth to strengthen enamel and prevent the development of caries. Fluoridation can be performed for both children and adults.
Invasive (or application-based) tooth fluoridation is used in the following cases:
- to strengthen tooth enamel, especially in children whose enamel is still forming and is more susceptible to damage;
- in cases of increased risk of caries development, for example, if the patient has dental plaque, frequently consumes sweet and acidic beverages, or requires long-term antibiotic therapy;
- in the presence of early-stage caries or carious lesions, when it is necessary to stop further tooth destruction and strengthen the enamel;
- in cases of increased tooth sensitivity to cold or heat, when fluoride can strengthen enamel and reduce sensitivity;
- depending on the condition of the teeth and the dentist’s recommendations, one of two methods may be selected: fluoridation with liquid or fluoridation with varnish.
How Is the Procedure Performed at Astra Dent?
The procedure of fluoridation with liquid or varnish is simple and quick.
Before starting, the dentist examines the oral cavity and, if necessary, removes dental plaque from the tooth surface. Then the appropriate product is selected: enamel-sealing liquid or fluoride varnish.
The procedure includes the following stages:
- tooth isolation. Using cotton rolls for the tray, the dentist fixes a special tray on the tooth to isolate it from the oral mucosa and adjacent teeth;
- tooth drying. After isolation, the dentist uses an air stream to dry the tooth surface to ensure better adhesion of fluoride to the enamel;
- application of the fluoride preparation. Using an applicator, the dentist applies the fluoride preparation to the tooth surface. Depending on the selected product, it may be applied in individual spots or as an even layer over the entire surface;
- distribution of the preparation. Using an air stream or another instrument, the dentist evenly distributes the material over the entire surface;
- exposure time. The preparation is left on the tooth surface for several minutes for better effectiveness;
- removal of the tray and mouth rinsing. After the exposure time, the tray is removed and the patient is asked to rinse the mouth to remove any remaining material.
The entire procedure takes only a few minutes and usually does not cause pain or discomfort. After fluoridation, it is recommended to avoid eating and drinking for 30-60 minutes to allow the preparation to fully absorb into the enamel.
What Materials Are Used?
The materials used during fluoridation with enamel-sealing liquid or fluoride varnish may vary depending on the dental clinic.
Typically, the following materials are used:
- enamel-sealing liquid or fluoride varnish containing a high concentration of fluoride to protect enamel from caries and destruction;
- a tray (special protective plastic cover) that protects the tooth from contact with the oral mucosa and helps create optimal conditions for fluoride penetration;
- an applicator for applying the fluoride preparation;
- cotton rolls used to fix the tray and isolate the tooth from adjacent teeth and mucosa;
- an air stream to dry the tooth surface before application;
- an instrument for even distribution of the fluoride preparation over the tooth surface.
All these materials are intended to ensure an effective and safe fluoridation procedure that helps protect enamel from caries and other diseases.
What Does the Price of Tooth Fluoridation with Enamel-Sealing Liquid or Fluoride Varnish Depend On?
The price of tooth fluoridation may depend on many factors, such as the experience and qualification of the dentist, the material used, the number of teeth requiring fluoridation, and other factors.
Usually, the price for fluoridation with enamel-sealing liquid or fluoride varnish is calculated per tooth. However, some clinics may offer special packages that include several teeth or the entire oral cavity, which may reduce the overall cost of the procedure.
