Sedation

A lot of people have anxiety and concerns about pain with dental procedures. Anxiety can delay getting treatment and that can make the problem worse.

General anesthesia is used for longer procedures, or if you have a lot of anxiety that might interfere with your treatment.

You’ll be completely unconscious, have no pain, your muscles will be relaxed, and you’ll have amnesia from the procedure.

General anesthesia is a state of unconsciousness produced by an anesthesiologist where the patient does not remember or feel anything during the procedure. In addition, the patient remains still and does not move. The anesthesiologist must monitor the patient continually and ensure that the patient remains safe until the patient emerges from anesthesia. Due to the complexity of this type of care, the office should have special monitoring and emergency equipment to ensure patient safety.

Reasons for General Anesthesia:

• Large or extensive amounts of treatment to be performed.
• Uncooperative or phobic patients.
• Patients with special healthcare needs such as Autism.
• Young patients that cannot cooperate.
• Failed to accomplish treatment with sedation, laughing gas, and/or behavior management.
